Question #2

Kristel Wyman asks: “if you could shoot a wedding anywhere in the world, where would it be, and what would it look like?”

Man, what a tough question! If I could just be lame and vague I would simply answer ‘anywhere’ and ‘full of details, colour, emotion and laughter’… but I can’t simply leave it at that, so here’s my best attempt…

If I had to choose ANYWHERE to shoot in the world I would probably say Japan.

I’ve always wanted to travel to Japan. There’s just something so magical about it’s landscapes, architecture and sense of style. It would also be such a change of pace for someone like me who has only traveled in North America and now to France. I just know I would get a HUGE creative charge out of it and come away with some life changing moments!

So… what would my Japanese wedding look like? What I visualize is something modern, sleek and urban. I would love if the bride was wearing a unique high fashion gown complete with flowers or feathers in the hair instead of a veil, VERY hot and unique heels and a groom in an suit that matches the same level of fashion.

The portrait session would take place in downtown Tokyo just before sunset leading into early evening. It would include lots of street scenes and urban flare… and I would even have a fashion level lighting team along with me to be at my beck and call for that added ‘wow factor’ when I need it! (Hey… this is a fantasy right? Why not!);)

The reception would be someplace modern and chic. Probably a really sexy restaurant rented out for the evening, complete with professional lighting and a live band (preferably an all girl Japanese rock band… that would be sweet!). My bride will have changed into a second dress by this point (something ready to boogie) and between all the good food and getting down we would take a time out again to go grab some intimate shots of the happy couple as the day draws to a close…

The next day we’d travel to a smaller town and get some more rural Japan shots for a day after session. Because of the relaxed feel of the session I would want it to be a daytime session. Just the beauty that is Japan and their love… and hopefully we could find a temple or traditional garden we could use for part of it! If the sakura trees happened to be in bloom I would be a happy happy girl… *swoon*

Sighhhh… I just visualized that so well I feel like I actually did it! Well, maybe one day I’ll get to live that dream… I’m really looking forward to my first destination wedding, no matter where it might be!:)
